We gotta get away from the instant gratification mindset! The old adage “good things come to those who wait” isn’t just “old people talk”…it’s biblical.
Proverbs tells us,
“Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.”
~ Proverbs 13:4
“Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!”
~ Proverbs 14:23
All too often we want something good for ourselves…AND WE WANT IT NOW! And what’s worse, we want it NOW and we want it without having to put in much (if any) HARD WORK!
And why shouldn’t we? We can catch up with family and friends and current events instantly via social media 24/7 with little to no work on our part. We can get our pizza in five minutes with little to no work on our part. We can get our favorite fast food items through a drive-thru window in less than 3 minutes with little to no work on our part. We can torch and rate a business for poor service (or praise them for great service) in an online review website in 30 seconds with little to no work on our part. And we can get immediate feedback of the choices we make in a video game within milliseconds with little to no work on our part.
So it’s no wonder that we’re quickly becoming a “I want it and I want it NOW without putting in the WORK” society.
Unfortunately, the more we’re programmed to think that good things should happen immediately and easily, the more we miss out on the value of hard work and time that goes into the end result. The steps taken to reach a desired result is a beautiful part of the process! And when we shorten/cheapen those steps (or take them out completely), we miss out on the life impacting lessons that can be learned through taking the time to work hard and do it right.
Get rich quick schemes are everywhere! Get fit fast scams are everywhere!! Get the woman (or man) of your dreams by using our product rip-offs are everywhere!!!
Do we really think riches, good health, and love can be gained overnight? And if we could gain them overnight, is the quality of what we gained worth the shortcuts? Crappy practices produce crappy results!
This kind of lazy thinking is STUPID! Oh…that ain’t just me talking…that’s God talking:
“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.”
~ Proverbs 12:11
Bottom Line Y’all…
The next time the thought of taking the easy road that produces instant gratification starts creeping in, remember…the rewards we receive from an easy endeavor deprive us of the blessing of EXPERIENCE AND WISDOM that come with putting in the time…and hard work!
